Programme MAGNITUDE

Programme MAGNITUDE aims to develop in our talented students the values of moral citizenship and giving back to society. We want them to draw upon their talents and strengths, identify real needs in society, and have the heart and courage to inspire change.

The MAGNITUDE modules seek to introduce students to new frameworks and methodologies to tackle present and future problems of our modern world, including tools to identify gaps by forecasting possible futures and scenarios.

These strategies teach students the importance of a future-oriented mindset in anticipating the issues of the world, so as to remain one step ahead of any possible challenges or threats to our societies. Such an approach enables students to venture new ways of thinking, and empowers them to enlarge the magnitude of social change into the future.

Futures & Foresight Methodologies

The FFM module seeks to help students acquire a keen awareness of Singapore’s possible futures and their implications for Singapore society at present, as well as the ethical and practical considerations in the application of such foresight methodologies used to forecast these futures.

The study of such futures is a necessary and urgent one as our world and country today face the complexities of ever-emerging technological advances, constantly evolving insights into the human experience, and looming catastrophes such as climate change.

“The session about the controversy behind gaming and the use of the blueprint of religious venues as sites for virtual gaming was extremely engaging because of the speaker who was humorous and also engaged each and every one of us via the Q&A segment and mandated everyone to ask a question. As a result, I was able to hear the many different perspectives and a diversity of questions I would not have raised otherwise. Since it was a small group, it was better as well.”

Joanne Ho, EJC Class of 2021, Futures and Foresight Methodologies Module

“I really enjoyed the very first session of FFM, because it set the foundation of why futures were being explored in the first place, which I had never previously considered. I learned that many decisions are made based on our political bias, and to understand why fiction or sci-fi writers frame their story in a certain way was really exciting, so I enjoyed it a lot.”

Entrepreneurial Skills & Perspectives

The ESP module is aimed at developing entrepreneurship in high-ability students at EJC. Students will learn that entrepreneurship is more than the traditional notion of creating a business venture. They will appreciate that an entrepreneur is one who is capable of managing resources, problem-solving and creating new or improved ideas, solutions, productions and services to value-add to society. ESP aims to develop the mindset and skillsets associated with entrepreneurship to navigate an increasingly complex and fast-changing world.
